Why it exists
Moving a frontend build to a cache should not need a plugin, a dashboard tour or a purge button. You cast a versioned release, it spreads across the network, and the URL is fast from the first request.
Shoal is a small, community-run CDN for the files a browser needs before anything else can happen: scripts, stylesheets, fonts and WASM modules.
Moving a frontend build to a cache should not need a plugin, a dashboard tour or a purge button. You cast a versioned release, it spreads across the network, and the URL is fast from the first request.
Uploads land in origin storage and fan out to every site over an internal mesh. Immutable objects stay in cache until they age out, so popular files practically never leave. Anycast sends each request to the closest healthy PoP.
No server-side rendering, no edge functions and no per-visitor request logs. Shoal moves bytes that were already public, counts hits per file, and keeps out of the way.
The CLI, the integrity tooling and the origin sync daemon are published under the MIT licence. Operational runbooks and the incident history are public, too.
Questions, abuse reports or requests for a new PoP go to hello@cdnshoal.com. We read everything.
